Early detection is crucial in increasing survival rates!
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women today. The most recent estimates for breast cancer in the United States are for 2009:
- 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer
- 40,170 deaths from breast cancer
Cervical cancer was once the leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States. However, during the past 50 years, incidence and mortality from cervical cancer have declined, largely because of the widespread use of the Pap test to detect cervical abnormalities.
